Ganesha's Global Startup by Prachi Garg

My group has reviewed around 5 books of Prachi Garg collectively. And she is on our list of top ten inspirational authors list. "The Legend of a Start-up Guy" was Prachi's and probably among Indian authors' first attempt at mythology-based startup fiction. In that book, she wrote a fictional story around Ganesha's attempts to establish himself as an entrepreneur. Her next book was based on the story of Ramayana-based characters. Prachi is back with her next book and that too sequel of "The Legend of a Start-up Guy".

I think I have discussed enough previous works of Prachi, let's talk about the main book for which I am writing this review. "Ganesha's Global Startup"

Ganesha's Global Startup by Prachi Garg

In the first part, we read that how after mountainous efforts Ganesha got successful in establishing his startup and make it a steady business. He also received good recognition and an award for the same. But as we see in real life, you need even greater efforts to survive and to expand your new startup. This book is more focused on those points. Through this part, Ganesha's story passes through phases like handling funding entities, expansion strategies, sustainable business models, etc. Read the book to know more.

My observations about the book

  1. Easy language for any age group
  2. Familiarity with Indian Mythology characters' names. Added benefits if you have read the prequel
  3. Fast paced storyline
  4. Self-help bundled with fiction
  5. All basic startup-level learnings were covered in the last part. This book is more about the next level of startups

I will give 3.5 out of 5 to this book.

Book Review - 7 Sutras of Innovation by Nikhil Inamdar

When it comes to inspirational or motivational books I think no one can beat Jaico Publishers. And I am talking about it from my personal experience because, in the last two years, I have read many motivational books and Jaico's collection was far better. When I saw the title "7 sutras of Innovation - Stories of scale-ups that are transforming India" I decided that I have to read it. One more reason for selecting this book was author Nikhil Inamdar's previous book "Rokada - How Baniyas do Business" was in my wishlist so I couldn't ignore this one.

7 sutras of innovation

I am glad that I have taken this book and I am fortunate that I was able to read it in the peaceful time of quarantine. When I got this book in my hand, I was fascinated to find out the first two pages of the book is full of the praise by many business giants, professors, and, heads of various organization. That made me confident about my decision.

Talking about the content of this book as the title suggests the author has provided 7 sutras that can help an organization to get a clear vision and strategy for its business operations. The first few pages have discussed what these sutras are in a brief one or two paragraphs. You might think why such a short description when the whole book is on the sutras, then we have 8 real-life examples of various organizations that have used these principles knowingly or unknowingly in their business to achieve greater goals. With these 8 examples, Nikhil has extensively explained how these concepts fit their business problems and how the organization has tackled it. Again not each of these organizations has used all seven sutras but they have used a combination of the sutras to achieve their business goals. At the end of each chapter, Nikhil has given the summary.

I am completely impressed by the way Nikhil has explained these business cases. The language used is so simple and smooth that any business inspirant with little knowledge of English can take this book easily. I suggest, do take a notepad and pen or a marker while reading this book. Keep notes of important points. If you want only a summary of the book then you may point down the first few pages of where sutras were introduced. I think they are good enough to remind you where your business lies and how you can think about the solution.

I would like to give 4.5 out of 5 to this book

An Inspiration Book Read - Be Your Own Sunshine by James Allen - Book Review

"Be Your Own Sunshine - Towards a Better Tomorrow" is another book I have been gifted by one of my friends in the publishing industry. It became my companion for almost one and a half-day during the lockdown. The book is written by James Allen one of the Pioneers in the field of motivation.

be your own sunshine

Talking about the content, the book is an amalgamation of four booklets. You may read these sections independently or in a sequence of your own. These four segments are:
  • As a man thinketh
  • From passion to peace
  • Man: King of mind, body, and circumstance
  • Foundation stones to happiness and success
Each of the segments starts with a nice pair of lines that you can ponder upon followed by the foreword of that segment. Then comes 5 to 8 chapters of each of the segments. Topics covered in these segments are passion, happiness, power of thinking & visualization, mental stability, habits, spiritual quest.

If you are looking for a dose of positivity or some inspirational read supported by a proper field expert than this is the book for you. 160 pages of this book are more than enough for a reader to give a good company. If you are reading for self-improvement then I suggest take a notepad & a pen and start noting down the important points given in the book. I am sure that will help you greatly. The language used in the book is simple, even a beginner can read it without any problem. You will find a proper mix of examples and theory (or I would say philosophy) in the book which can entertain you or keep your interest quotient till the last page

I'll give 3.5 out of 5 to this wonderful book.

No Limits by Mukesh Bansal- A Book Review

Black background, infinity symbol & subtitle "art & science of high performance", these three things were captured by my bookish mind when I first saw the cover on the WritersMelon site. Initially, I was unimpressed, maybe cover was giving me a feeling of an academic look to the book, but I am a staunch believer of "never judge a book based on its cover". So I searched about Mukesh Bansal, and that's when I came to know he is the guy behind two famous brands Myntra & CureFit. So my perception of an academic book was changed to an inspirational one. I applied for the book and luckily I got a chance to review it. I know I took around 15-17 days to bring the review but the length and depth of the book expect dedication from its reader.

I will the book is no less than a jackpot for me. The velvety black cover and inspiring childhood sorry of Mukesh became instrumental for me to keep this book on the priority that other currently-reading shelf.

The best part of the book is the content design. The book is divided into four segments. Just like a practical teacher, Mukesh has covered his journey from childhood to the latest addition to his portfolio CureFit. This part his inspiring and exemplary in many ways. From that segment, Mukesh took readers through the fundamentals & technicalities of talent, smart/hard work, habits, physical & mental health. Once the reader is properly informed, Mukesh took them a tide of practical examples and showed how the topics explained in the book can be taken in practical use. Read the book to know more.

The book is written for everyone. Its simple language & easy explanation can increase readers' curiosity for more. Ample examples & anecdotes support terminologies & topics covered in the book. There are many incidents in the book which you can relate to your life or the people around you. The balance between theories & practicality has been maintained wonderfully. Overall a wonderful read.

The book deserves 5 out of 5 for the awesomeness of its coverage.

A Book Review - Chase Your Life Dreams by Alka Dixit

For a fiction lover like me, nonfiction always throws challenges. Especially self-help becomes heavy for us. That's why I have become choosy in selecting self-help. I try to take books with good examples and proper exercises. I loathe theories and fundas. I selected "Chase your life Dreams" after proper research and checking reviews of fellow bloggers. They claimed a book full of examples and charts, and such nonfictions always catch my attention.

As I mentioned just now, the author Alka has divided the content into small chapters. Every topic is properly described. And to keep readers' attention intact, she has highlighted bullet points. Short stories accompanying these chapters keep interest quotient high. Alka has shared multiple experiences from her life, which give you proper examples of what she is trying to say. And at the end of each chapter, you will find an exercise to rewind the topic. In short, properly planned and engaging content awaits its readers.

In today's competitive world you will find hell lot of negativity around us. Alka has strictly asked readers to stay away from this negativity. To cling to positivity to sail your life's ship is one of the major learning from the book. Overall a short read. Lucid flow & easy language made the book an ideal pick for beginners. The regular readers may find it slightly below their expectations, but I still found it better than the so-called self-help being sold by some bestselling authors.

I will give 3.5 out of 5 to this book.

Self-help Book Review - Climbing the Beanstalk : It’s Up to You to Reach the Top by Roshmi Roy

What is the first thing you do when you encounter self-help books? Well, for me self-help is a unique genre which requires manual screening to make sure that I am not going to venture into a wrong book. I check the clarity of the author, Not just pages and pages of long theories, I prefer proper examples, steps & diagrams. I know you might think, how will one know all these before reading the book. Well, I give at least 10-15 minutes for screening before zeroing down a book. When a friend at the publishing house recommended this book to me, the first thing I did was a little research on available reviews. As the book was just published, there were no reviews on Goodreads / Amazon. So the second thing I did was added the book to Kindle shelf (as the book was available free of cost for a limited duration). I checked randomly a few pages. Once I was sure and impressed by the content I started reading it. So here I am going to discuss my take on "Climbing the Beanstalk: It’s Up to You to Reach the Top" by Roshmi Roy.

Book Blurb
Whatever you want to achieve in life, whatever you want to become, the power to do so lies within you. You must be willing to seize the opportunities that come your way and take the risks involved.
Climbing the Beanstalk is the path you need to take to reach the top. This book outlines the changes you need to make to your personality and the skills you have to enhance. Soft skills is a major area to focus on for your career development. You will find here a practical guideline not only on how to develop your personality but also on the soft skills required to make your way in the professional world.
Before I go to the content, let me tell you the author's idea behind the title. She has used a reference to the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk", where a boy exchanged his cow for 3 magical beans, which led him to the house of a giant. Due to this adventure boy found the hen that laid golden eggs. So the author’s idea is until we explore or go for an adventure to discover our true self how will we know our true value.

The book is not focused on particular traits or habit. Instead, the author has covered many areas and domains. Starting from personality development, leadership, change management, professional etiquette. In short, it is a jack of many soft skills. Again the author has not bored out readers by giving too much technical & philosophical information. Instead, she has divided each topic into mainly three parts.
  • Introduction to the topic
  • Example, supporting stories, excerpts
  • Steps to follow the same in life
The author has touched around 15-20 major topics. Almost on each of them, you will get dozens of books. If you find it boring to read such books, then you may try this one.

I liked the way quotations or lines from various literature & supporting materials were presented. Ample usage of examples and stories has raised the interest quotient. To make the complex procedure simple, at many places advice is given in bullet points and steps. Overall a very useful book.

Inspirational Fiction - Alumni of the Year by Tomson Robert - Book Review

I got this book last to last week Saturday (20th July) and I was expecting a more of a self-help type book. But it turns out as a light read with a good entertainment factor. I would like to thank author Robert Tomson and Writersmelon for providing a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Book Blurb
Experience Dave’s journey.
Dave is ambitious, has a demanding boss, and is struggling to balance work and life, especially the relationship with his five-year-old daughter. Dave cherishes the memories of his school days. However, due to an incident from the past, he hardly keeps in touch with his best friends.
When Dave learns that his arch-rival from school is nominated for the prestigious Alumni of the Year Competition, he buys his way into the nomination by donating to the school library.
Travel on a life-changing journey with Dave—from Dubai, to Goa, to Kochi—as he goes for the School Reunion function. See how he confronts his past, his ambitions, his fears, and discovers about what truly matters in life.
When I say inspirational, don't dishearten, the book is based on a fictional story. The protagonist of the story is Dave married to Ann and father of 5-year-old girl Alexa. He is working with JW Associate and settled in Dubai. Well set in a job and doing better financially was not able to give Dave satisfaction. He was one of those (maybe like us) who always say just next target (maybe project/promotion) and then I will slow down. But the moment target is achieved he would make the next target by sacrificing family relations. Dave's company is targeting for a multimillion bank merger project and Dave's team with his shrewd boos Ben was working on it. Dave has already started experiencing early family problems due to his negligence toward family. His vacation was colliding with Ben's set expectations for the project. Dave is getting stressed out how to handle out the situation. He revisited memories associated with his friends and how things went during junior college days. The gem of the story is the last section which gives inspiration to Dave. Read the book to know more.

My observation
  • The fast-paced story you won't feel it finished. I did it in just 3 sittings in less than 4 hours
  • Language is easy. Good for beginners
  • Good balance of faith and inspiration
  • Can help people stuck in such professional-personal cycle.
  • Good choice for light readers. Take it on the trip, it will keep you entertained

Life's Amazing Secrets by Gaur Gopal Das - Book Review

It was a Saturday evening around 5:55 PM, my daily office closing time, when my mobile pinged. That mobile notification brought mail with two great news for us.
  1. We got mail from Pengium India to offer us a chance to review a book
  2. The book was none other than Gaur Gopal Das, who's videos are being viral every now and then, referred by many of my friends on social media.
So it was obvious that we were not gonna say no to such a golden opportunity.

Book Blurb
While navigating their way through Mumbai's horrendous traffic, Gaur Gopal Das and his wealthy young friend Harry get talking, delving into concepts ranging from the human condition to finding one's purpose in life and the key to lasting happiness. Whether you are looking at strengthening your relationships, discovering your true potential, understanding how to do well at work or even how you can give back to the world, Gaur Gopal Das takes us on an unforgettable journey with his precious insights on these areas of life. Das is one of the most popular and sought-after monks and life coaches in the world, having shared his wisdom with millions. His debut book, Life's Amazing Secrets, distils his experiences and lessons about life into a light-hearted, thought-provoking book that will help you align yourself with the life you want to live.
Though we had said yes, we were a little bit tensed as the book belonged to a spiritual/mental self-help genre, which I personally not prefer. But I was proved wrong just like his videos. Gaur Gopal Das has used a unique concept. He has narrated his incident from his personal experience. The story started with Gaur Gopal's visit to an elite (super rich) couple's house. Harry (husband) went to drop Gaur Gopal after lunch. They stuck in traffic during the trip, at that time Harry confessed his situation to Gaur Gopal, that was when the story started. From there started a series of serious thoughts bundled with amazing short stories or narrations that one can correlate. Gaur Gopal has wonderfully used the object in which they were traveling to explain things. The content was divided into 4 sections, just like 4 tyres of a car, which according to Gaur Gopal Das makes our life easy and satisfied. These 4 tyres are
  1. Personal life
  2. Relationship
  3. Worklife
  4. Social contributions
Even if one tyre gets punctured one cannot drive safely or survive the good drive. Our life depends upon the balance of these tyres. With each section, Harry's doubts were resolved by Gaur Gopal by proper reasoning and spirituality.

Good points
  • Easy to follow language and medium pace
  • A wonderful amalgamation of self-help and short stories
  • Applicable to each and every person, especially in India where people judge first and act later
  • Question provided at end of each chapter which can help to learn yourself and align yourself with the logic
A sure shot must read for anyone and any age group. I must be the lucky one to get a chance to review such a book.

No need for separate rating 5/5 to the book.

Book Review - 10 Success Secrets - Kumar Mangalam Birla by Drimi Chaudhuri

Being a post graduate of business & operations non-fiction based on business success stories or business tycoons were always our personal favorite. ABG (Aditya Birla Group) used to come to NITIE for placements and at that time it was one of my dream jobs, due to its dynamic work culture. Well, I didn't get that chance but I didn't want to lose a chance to read about the guy who made that or I would say brought that culture of the company.

Book Blurb
Famously shy and unbelievably humble, Kumar Mangalam Birla is not one to talk about his achievements, whether in private or in public. That’s why this book is invaluable to anyone who aspires to reach the heights the Birla scion has attained.

Author Drimi Chaudhuri expertly combs through the rise and rise of Kumar Mangalam from the day the 28-year-old took over the reins of the group and weaves a splendid account of how the young heir managed to revamp the corporate culture at AB Group and elevated the company to the level of a conglomerate it is today. With the help of the industrialist’s close aides, associates and family members, Chaudhuri unearths what makes Kumar Mangalam Birla a successful mogul.
Read on to know more about the man who leads one of India’s biggest multinationals and his business mantras.
Talking about the content, the author has created magic by combining 3 different genres in the same book which are biography, self-help and business case. If a reader is comfertable with any of these three can easily gulp it down. The book is divided into ten chapters, as given in subtitle, each chapter dedicated to one success mantra that Aditya Birla used. He entered into business at a very early age of 28 with little or no business experience. But they said 'You don't need to color eggs of peacock" Young Birla had dream and conviction for the business direction. He brought many innovations and 360 degrees changes in on-going practices. Results of his efforts are in front of us, Aditya Birla Group is now leading conglomerate of India.

Two gems of the book are
  1. Dialog/quotes of Aditya Birla given throughout the book
  2. Success mantra based quotation given at the end of each chapter
All and all following points make this book ahead of other reads
  • Easy language & straight narration style
  • Light read
  • Full with inspiration with practical tried examples
  • Give food for thought
  • Fertilizer for corporate guys for their better organizational strategies
  • The best material for management students for their placements and corporate career
I would give 4 stars out of 5 to the author for his efforts.

Book Review "Don’t Understand" by Paresh Bhandari

A hunter taking aim at an open book on the cover and a colophon that stressed the title in a cross. The very first impression of the book lay in the title itself and it was enough to pique my curiosity.

“Don’t understand” is Paresh Bhandari’s take on life, its aspects, the common perspective and his unique view on each of them.

Book Blurb
DON’T UNDERSTAND is a life changing book covering multiple dimensions of living. It is a new approach to address social, cultural, psychological, philosophical, scientific and spiritual topics like STUDY, MARRIAGE, COMMUNALISM, AUM, TIME, LOVE etc. This book motivates to do pioneering work in designing a spiritual index that can show at
which rate mankind is making or destroying lives. The book talks about learning, understanding, experimenting and experiencing, and defines success. With a sense of urgency, the author tries to promote meditation and love so that life gets its essence. This book will provide completeness to not only disoriented lives but also
libraries especially the personal libraries.
From the very start itself the author ensures that we stop applying common logic to life. He takes in the calmer topics first and allows the randomness to set in.  Like a roller coaster ride, the pace kicks in we slowly get the context of the book , the book is not meant to be just soaked in and gives you something to think about.

The book is written in first person perspective. Each and every one of the thirteen topics is short, sweet and summarized well. The incidents and examples chosen by the author feel real and relatable. However, I did feel that for most of the part the book I was not able to find that powerful impact after a good build-up. One might agree or disagree with the author’s view, but nevertheless expression “Penny For Your Thoughts” comes to life.

Personally, I liked the chapter that talked of “Self”. It successfully breaks the conventional thought process and feels the most unique. The chapter of “Don’t understand” feels too chaotic. But nevertheless the book delivers its message to stop making sense of everything, stop trying to find the connection and enjoy life as it comes.

For Paresh Bhandari’s unique philosophy on life as we live it, my overall rating would be 3.5.

Overall Verdict:- Interesting, Thoughtful And Random

Book Review - The 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma

We always give chance to review the book by other than our team members. In past, we have given chance to more than 5 people and 2 of them are our core member now. So last month when one of my colleagues asked me to give him some good books, I gave him 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma only on one condition that he will provide the review for the same. Well, we both got benefited from this. Se here is the review written by my colleague Raviraj Shah.

Book Blurb
Part manifesto for mastery, part playbook for genius-grade productivity and part companion for a life lived beautifully, the 5 am club is a work that will transform your life. Forever.
Legendary leadership and elite performance expert Robin Sharma introduced The 5 AM Club concept over twenty years ago, based on a revolutionary morning routine that has helped his clients maximize their productivity, activate their best health and bulletproof their serenity in this age of overwhelming complexity.
Now, in this life-changing book, handcrafted by the author over a rigorous four year period, you will discover the early-rising habit that has helped so many accomplish epic results while upgrading their happiness, helpfulness and feelings of aliveness.
Through an enchanting—and often amusing—story about two struggling strangers who meet an eccentric tycoon who becomes their secret mentor, The 5 AM Club will walk you through:
■ How great geniuses, business titans and the world’s wisest people start their mornings to produce astonishing achievements
■ A little-known formula you can use instantly to wake up early feeling inspired, focused and flooded with a fiery drive to get the most out of each day
■ A step-by-step method to protect the quietest hours of daybreak so you have time for exercise, self-renewal and personal growth
■ A neuroscience-based practice proven to help make it easy to rise while most people are sleeping, giving you precious time for yourself to think, express your creativity and begin the day peacefully instead of being rushed
■ “Insider-only” tactics to defend your gifts, talents and dreams against digital distraction and trivial diversions so you enjoy fortune, influence and a magnificent impact on the world

I admire the writer for attempting a new concept of sharing motivation idea in a fiction way to get readers interested in it. The author has shared a beautiful concept to develop inner power to get external achievements. It also shares how should we develop our inner power by following daily rituals. 5 AM club doesn't only share the benefits of waking up early but it shares how powerful it impacts on our rest day activities. The book helps to develop the habit of rising early and also shares what we should do after waking up. The writer has focused on the importance of phycology, emotions, physical strength and spirituality. He has shared the method of developing it and use it to achieve all our desires.

The concept is beautiful the writer could have avoided fiction story or could have given less focus on it. Many times content deviated from its core point. There were places where the writer got into over-detailing which lost the main point of motivation. It also seems the material could be reduced if the writer could balance the main topic and story.

I feel one should read the book at least once. If the reader find book heavy, they can avoid starting chapters and jump to later chapters to get the core idea of the book.

I will give 4 out 5 stars to Robin Sharma's 5 A.M. Club.

Book Review - Walk the Wire - A 21st Century Guide for Millennials

The title "Walk the Wire" in red font and a man juggling 3 apples at ease got my attention when I first saw the book cover. Then I saw the introductory line "A 21st Century Guide for Millennials to Find Balance and Accomplish Their Goals" on the top of the book. Though self-help is not our favorite genre, the short length made us select this book.

Book Blurb
A strong reason why we fail to achieve our goals is our inability to comprehend our minds. We sometimes tend to over-commit to multiple goals and set ourselves up for failure or lose direction of where we want to go. History is important because it reminds us of mistakes from the past, the knowledge of which prevents us from repeating the same. Similarly, our personal history with goal-setting and goal-achievement is salient in understanding what we could have done better in the past, and implementing them into a more effective present and future.

Through this book, you will become aware of why you aren’t as effective in goal-setting and goal-achievement and how you can become the absolute best version of yourself. We will cover the wonderful art and science behind setting multiple goals and achieving them, and attempt to master the jugglery of balance in several aspects of our lives. Take this journey with me to truly understand how you can excel in multiple aspects of your life all at once. You can have your cake and eat it too.
Let’s walk the wire together!
The book is divided into 4 chapters. The name goes like this
  1. Too many distraction, too little substance
  2. Dealing with the beast
  3. Putting into Practice
  4. Finding balance
You may find the name of chapters too generic or theoretic, but the author has nicely covered important points as in bullet list. He has perfectly started with the situation of the 21st-century young generation. It is easy to get distracted in today's world. Even if you feel you are not distracted then many of us are still under the false impression of achieving something. Things may look good but won't fit us. Many times we set goals without giving many thoughts. Author has shown a systematic approach to decide realistic, achievable and measurable goals, considering all circumstances. And then comes how we are going to achieve them. We all complain about lack of time and money. But so was the case with successful people. Here the author has shown some real cases to prioritize/delegate/schedule our current lifestyle. Lastly, he has shown the importance of balance between work life and how to achieve maintain goals.

Self-help book required a good amount of illustrations and examples otherwise it will end up another theory book. Vivek has given ample examples (one per topic) to keep the reader hooked. Illustrations /tools/materials also help the reader to apply these concepts in real life. Finally short in size book will not give the first impression of a dull read. The author has also provided blank spaces, wherever thought process and jotting down required. If you are really looking for some help in increasing your focus/concentrations, but cannot take self-help, then I would recommend this book to you. It is a light and engaging read, and equally helpful.

Book Review - "100 Desi Stories: Legendary Leaders" by Madhur Zakir Hallegua

After reading "Ideas to Iconic Brand", I have become a big fan of this type of super short real-life stories. It gives us knowledge, entertainment, and satisfaction. "100 Desi Stories: Legendary Leaders" by Madhur Zakir Hallegua is also a collection of 100 personalities' life incidents which can give us lifelong learning.

Book Blurb
India is home to many legendary figures who have paved the way for change through their indomitable spirit.
100 Desi Stories: Legendary Leaders is a testament to the talents, inspiration and resilience of a hundred trailblazers. These crusaders may be royals, warriors, rebels and reformists, spiritual mentors, artists, activists or sports persons who have proved their mettle under the most trying circumstances.
The book or I would say the characters' were divided based on their personality, status or profile. Segments are Royal, warrior, rebels & reform, spiritual mentors and living legends. The beauty of the book is learning from stories are not segmented as per above. Learning could be devotion, loyalty, humility to upliftment, bravery, strategy to farsightedness. The book covers all Indian personalities starting from Chandra Gupta Maurya / Chanakya to Current PM Narendra Modiji. Selection of characters is also brilliant (If I exclude living legend section, I will discuss the reason for the same in coming paragraphs)

At end of every chapter, the author has asked questions why a certain thing was done by that character, which in many cases was something new to learn. At the end of the book, two more similar books were described. And I have added them in wishlist already.

I think the author is a big fan of current politico opposition, which is not at all wrong, but I have a personal dislike for such dual minded people. That's why I am somewhat disappointed in character selection of living legend. Though to balance them out the author has selected NaMo. Well, this is my personal view.

Otherwise awesome book. Reasons you should read it
  • The book makes you aware of Indian History and various characters which are virtually unknown to recent times
  • It will accelerate your thinking process
  • The book is written in a very light tone with easy language so anyone can read it.
